May 9 riots: two approvers retract confessional statement against Imran Khan – HUM News


RAWALPINDI: Two approvers against former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in the May 9 incidents have retracted their statements.

The approvers, former deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Wasiq Qayyum and Umar Tanveer Butt, have filed petitions in the special anti-terrorism court Rawalpindi, stating that they never gave a statement before a magistrate or filed a written statement as approvers against Imran Kha
The court accepted their statements and made them a part of the record.

Talking to the media outside the court, Wasiq Qayyum stated, “There is no truth in the statement attributed to me under article 164, and politics is nothing without Imran Khan which I will repeat a hundred times.”

Umar Tanveer endorsed Qayyum’s statement and said he had nothing to do with such a statement.
PTI advocate Muhammad Faisal Malik told the media that of the total May 9 riots cases, 14 have been heard so far.

“The Adiala jail staff did not allow us to go inside Adiala jail and the court will issue a detailed order on the matter soon,” Malik said.

Advocate Faisal also said that the retraction of Wasiq Qayyum and Umar Tanveer Butt from their statements is a major development who have said that they have nothing to do with the statement recorder under section 164. He said that the court made part of the record on their plea.
