State must shield citizens from social media ‘menace’: army chief – HUM News


ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir has said that it is the state’s responsibility to shield the people from the dangers and menace of social media.

Addressing the youth convention in Islamabad, Gen Munir expressed his confidence in the future, saying, “Seeing the sparkle in your eyes assures me that Pakistan’s future is in safe hands.”

He stressed the value of an independent state, remarking, “If you want to understand the importance of freedom, ask the people of Libya, Syria, Kashmir, and Gaza.”

The army chief highlighted that knowledge is what distinguishes an individual, and reiterated the state’s duty to protect citizens from the harmful influences of social media.

He also underscored that the strong relationship between the people, the government, and the army is crucial for the security and development of Pakistan.

As Muslims, he said, we are taught not to despair, noting that life is a test. He quoted a verse from the Quran: “Do people think they will be left alone because they say ‘We believe’ and will not be tested?”

Addressing the youth, General Asim Munir declared, “The greatest and most valuable asset of Pakistan is our youth, and we will not allow it to go to waste.”

Following his speech, the Army Chief responded to questions from the youth, including one regarding the riots in Parachinar. He affirmed that disputes over land and sub-districts can be resolved through unity and cooperation.

He also praised the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for standing firm against terrorism alongside the Pakistan Army for 22 years, expressing his belief that “Allah Almighty will grant us a decisive victory against terrorism.”
